Damascus was the capital of Aram (Syria), Israel’s northern neighbor, whose king Ben-hadad led the invading coalition against Samaria, capital of Israel’s northern kingdom. In this crisis, the prophet’s message assures Ahab that the Lord, not military strength, will determine Syria’s defeat.
