Jezreel was a fertile city and royal center in the northern kingdom of Israel, where Naboth’s vineyard lay beside Ahab’s palace. Samaria, Israel’s capital, was Ahab’s main seat of government; the setting at Jezreel highlights the king’s local power and his coveting of Naboth’s inherited land.
