Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. He laid him down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

Jezreel was a royal city in the fertile Jezreel Valley of northern Israel, where Naboth’s vineyard lay beside Ahab’s palace. Samaria, the capital of the northern kingdom, was where Ahab returned in resentment after Naboth refused to surrender his ancestral land.
