The City of David was Jerusalem’s old fortified core, where Solomon had established his rule; Egypt was the powerful neighboring kingdom linked to Solomon by marriage. Gibeon, northwest of Jerusalem, housed the principal high place and tabernacle altar, so Solomon went there to offer sacrifices before the Lord.
