Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia were regions of northern and western Asia Minor (modern Turkey), containing scattered Christian communities. Though named in 1 Peter 1:1 rather than verse 3, they identify the exiled believers to whom Peter proclaims God’s living hope through Christ’s resurrection.
