Ammon, east of the Jordan, had besieged Jabesh-gilead, an Israelite town in Gilead; Saul summoned Israel from Gibeah, gathered forces at Bezek, and defeated the Ammonites. At Gilgal, Israel publicly renewed Saul’s kingship, recognizing God’s deliverance through him.
