Jabesh-gilead was an Israelite town east of the Jordan, besieged by the Ammonites, a people east of Israel. Saul was at Gibeah in Benjamin when the news arrived; he summoned Israel to Bezek, and the victory led the people to Gilgal, where his kingship was publicly reaffirmed.
