They said to the messengers who came, Thus shall you tell the men of Jabesh Gilead, Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have deliverance. The messengers came and told the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

Ammon lay east of the Jordan and besieged Jabesh-gilead, an Israelite town in Gilead; Saul gathered Israel at Bezek, likely west of the Jordan, before sending relief. Gibeah was Saul’s home base, while Gilgal became the place where Israel later renewed Saul’s kingship after this deliverance.
