Bethlehem was a town in Judah, about five miles south of Jerusalem, and the home of Jesse’s family. In this passage Saul sends for David from Bethlehem, marking the Lord’s providential movement of Jesse’s youngest son from obscurity toward service in Saul’s court and eventual kingship.
