Bethlehem was David’s hometown in Judah, though it is not named in 1 Samuel 20:1 itself; Naioth was a dwelling or settlement associated with Samuel’s prophetic community at Ramah. David had fled there from Saul, but in this verse he leaves Naioth to seek Jonathan’s help and discern Saul’s intentions.
