Mount Gilboa overlooks the Valley of Jezreel in northern Israel, where Saul’s army was defeated by the Philistines from Philistia. Beth-shan, west of the Jordan, became the site of Saul’s public humiliation, while Jabesh-gilead east of the Jordan later honored him by recovering his body.
