Mount Gilboa overlooks the Valley of Jezreel, where Saul’s army was defeated by the Philistines from Philistia. Beth-shan, west of the Jordan, became the place where the Philistines displayed Saul’s body, while Jabesh-gilead, east of the Jordan, later honored him by recovering it.
