Aphek and Ebenezer were the opposing Philistine and Israelite camps near the battle in which the ark was captured; Ebenezer likely lay west of Shiloh in the central hill country. Shiloh, Israel’s earlier sanctuary housing the tabernacle, awaited the fearful news that Israel had fallen and the ark had been taken.
