So the people sent to Shiloh; and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh of Hosts, who sits [above] the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

Aphek and Ebenezer were battlefield sites in the western hill country where Israel camped against the Philistines, while Shiloh was Israel’s central sanctuary, housing the tabernacle and ark. The elders summoned the ark from Shiloh, wrongly treating God’s covenant symbol as a means of securing victory.
