After certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people who were with him, and moved him to go up [with him] to Ramoth-gilead.

Ramoth-gilead was an Israelite city east of the Jordan, in Gilead, then held by Syria (Aram); Samaria was the capital of Ahab’s northern kingdom. Ahab’s invitation to Jehoshaphat at Samaria leads directly to their proposed campaign to recover Ramoth-gilead from Syria.
