Ramoth-gilead was an Israelite city east of the Jordan, claimed from Syria and contested in Ahab’s planned campaign; Samaria was Ahab’s capital, where Micaiah was to be imprisoned. Syria, ruled by Ben-hadad, was the opposing power whose conflict exposed the falsity of Ahab’s court prophets.
