Ramoth-gilead was an Israelite city east of the Jordan, in Gilead, then held by Syria (Aram); its recovery was the issue prompting Ahab’s proposed campaign. Samaria, Ahab’s capital in the northern kingdom, was where he assembled prophets, while Syria was the rival Aramean kingdom controlling Ramoth-gilead.
