The City of David was Jerusalem’s original royal stronghold, where Jehoshaphat was buried and from which Jehoram inherited Judah’s throne. Jerusalem was Judah’s covenant capital, while Edom, southeast of Judah, was a subject territory whose later revolt exposed the weakness of Jehoram’s reign.
