Ammon was Israel’s Transjordanian neighbor, subdued by Jotham and made tributary in the surrounding account. Jerusalem, Judah’s capital, included the City of David and the Ophel, the fortified ridge south and north of the temple area; Jotham’s burial there marked his royal Davidic succession.
