So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel, at Jerusalem: for they had not kept it in great numbers in such sort as it is written.

Assyria was the empire that had deported many northern Israelites; Beersheba in the far south and Dan in the far north mark the intended reach of Hezekiah’s invitation. Jerusalem, with its temple, was the Passover destination, while Kidron lay beside the city, where associated cleansing occurred.
