Carchemish was a strategic city on the Euphrates in northern Syria, where Egypt’s Pharaoh Neco was marching to aid or confront powers in the region. Josiah left Jerusalem and the Holy Place in Judah to meet him at Megiddo, a key pass in northern Israel, where this campaign led to Josiah’s death.
