The king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. Neco took Joahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.

Egypt was the southern kingdom that installed Eliakim as Judah’s king in Jerusalem, while Babylon (in Chaldea, southern Mesopotamia) soon asserted control and renamed him Jehoiakim. Persia is not active in this verse but later conquered Babylon and permitted Judean exiles to return to Jerusalem.
