Babylon (Chaldea), centered on the Euphrates in Mesopotamia, was the empire whose king Nebuchadnezzar came against Jerusalem, Judah’s capital. Ammon, Moab, Syria, and Egypt—including the Brook of Egypt boundary—mark the surrounding territories from which Judah’s former dominion had been stripped under Babylonian pressure.
