Naaman came from Aram (Syria), whose capital was Damascus and whose rivers Abana and Pharpar were esteemed locally; Samaria was Israel’s northern kingdom. His washing in the Jordan, rather than in Syrian waters, highlighted God’s sovereign provision through Israel’s prophet and brought his cleansing.
