Aram, also called Syria, was Israel’s northeastern rival kingdom; its king sent forces to seize Elisha at Dothan, a town in northern Israel. Samaria was Israel’s capital, while the Jordan marked the eastern boundary region; together these places frame the conflict between Aram and the northern kingdom.
