Ammon lay east of the Jordan, while Aramean forces came from Syria, including Zobah, Rehob, Maacah, and Tob, regions north and northeast of Israel toward the Euphrates. In this battle Joab’s advance drove the allied Ammonite-Aramean army back, showing the failure of Ammon’s hired foreign support.
