Why have you despised the word of Yahweh, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

Ammon was Israel’s eastern neighbor, whose royal city Rabbah lay east of the Jordan; Jerusalem was David’s capital. While David remained in Jerusalem, his army besieged Rabbah, and Nathan’s rebuke exposes David’s misuse of royal power during that campaign.
