Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent to you, saying, Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say, Why am I come from Geshur? it were better for me to be there still. Now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be iniquity in me, let him kill me.

Geshur was a small Aramean kingdom northeast of the Sea of Galilee, where Absalom lived in exile after killing Amnon; Jerusalem was David’s royal city, to which Absalom had returned but remained barred from the king’s presence. Tekoa, a Judean town south of Jerusalem, was Joab’s source for the wise woman whose intervention helped secure Absalom’s return.
