The king said to Ziba, What do you mean by these? Ziba said, The donkeys are for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as are faint in the wilderness may drink.

As David fled Jerusalem during Absalom’s revolt, he crossed the Kidron Valley and went up the Mount of Olives, east of the city, on his way toward the Jordan River. These locations mark his humiliating retreat from the royal capital and his movement toward refuge beyond the Jordan.
