Caesarea, the Roman provincial capital on the Mediterranean coast, was Cornelius’s home and the setting for Peter’s pivotal visit. Joppa lay south along the coast, while Galilee, Jerusalem, Judea, and Nazareth locate the wider Jewish setting from which the gospel now begins visibly reaching Gentiles.
