Caesarea was the Roman administrative center on the Mediterranean coast, where Peter proclaimed to Cornelius that Jesus’ ministry began in Galilee, especially Nazareth, and extended through Judea and Jerusalem. Joppa, where Peter had been staying, marks the immediate setting from which the gospel was carried to this Gentile household.
