Paul recounts in Jerusalem how, though born in Tarsus of Cilicia, he encountered the risen Jesus near Damascus, who identified himself as “Jesus of Nazareth.” Nazareth locates Jesus’ earthly origin, while Damascus marks Paul’s conversion and Jerusalem the setting of his defense.
