But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.

Asia was the Roman province in western Asia Minor from which Paul’s opponents came; Jerusalem was the Jewish religious center where accusations against him arose. Caesarea, the Roman administrative capital of Judea on the Mediterranean coast, was where Felix kept Paul imprisoned while seeking to please the Jews.
