Colossae was a small city in the Lycus Valley of Asia Minor, in present-day southwestern Turkey, near Laodicea and Hierapolis. Paul’s description of Christ’s supreme image-bearing and creative authority addressed believers there amid religious ideas that could diminish Christ’s unique preeminence.
