Colossae was a small inland city in the Lycus Valley of Asia Minor, in present-day western Turkey, near Laodicea and Hierapolis. Though not named in these verses, its church received Paul’s proclamation of Christ’s supremacy over all creation, countering any local pressure to diminish him through rival spiritual powers or practices.
