Hierapolis and Laodicea were neighboring cities in the Lycus Valley of Asia Minor, near Colossae, where Christian communities had been established. Though named in the surrounding context (4:13), they show the regional setting of Paul’s exhortation to Archippus to fulfill the ministry received from the Lord.
