The Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god: and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.

Jerusalem was Judah’s capital, where the temple stood; Babylon was the Mesopotamian imperial power that conquered it. Shinar, an older name for southern Mesopotamia/Chaldea, locates Babylon’s land, where temple vessels were taken, highlighting God’s sovereign judgment and the exile of Judah.
