Babylon was the capital of Nebuchadnezzar’s empire in Mesopotamia, where Judean exiles such as Daniel served. Chaldea could refer to the surrounding southern Mesopotamian region or, here, its learned court officials; the king’s decree threatened these wise men in Babylon after they could not reveal his dream.
