Babylon was the capital of the Neo-Babylonian Empire in Mesopotamia, where Daniel and other Judean exiles served under King Nebuchadnezzar. Chaldea referred to the Babylonian realm and especially its learned court officials; Daniel sought God’s mercy because the king’s demand threatened the lives of Babylon’s wise men.
