Bible Text

He changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who have understanding;

Babylon was the capital of the Neo-Babylonian Empire in Mesopotamia, while Chaldea referred to the surrounding southern Babylonian region and, by extension, its learned officials. In Daniel’s setting, God’s sovereignty over Babylon’s king and wise men demonstrates that he raises and removes rulers and grants wisdom as he wills.
