In the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty of it be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

Babylon, in the region of Chaldea in southern Mesopotamia (modern Iraq), was the capital of Nebuchadnezzar’s empire and the setting of Daniel’s court service. In this vision, Babylon represents the first of the earthly kingdoms that God will ultimately supersede through his enduring kingdom.
