Babylon was the imperial capital of Nebuchadnezzar’s kingdom in Mesopotamia, where Daniel served after Judah’s exile. Chaldea, often used for Babylonia or its learned ruling class, matters here because the king appoints Daniel over this province and its wise men after God reveals the dream’s meaning.
