Babylon was the imperial capital of Nebuchadnezzar’s Neo-Babylonian Empire, located in southern Mesopotamia near modern Hillah, Iraq. Chaldea referred to the surrounding southern Babylonian region and, by extension, the empire; Nebuchadnezzar’s image stood on its plain of Dura as a public assertion of royal power and worship.
