Then was Daniel brought in before the king. The king spoke and said to Daniel, Are you that Daniel, who are of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?

Babylon, the imperial capital on the Euphrates in Mesopotamia, was the center of the Chaldean/Babylonian kingdom ruled by Belshazzar. Jerusalem, Judah’s former capital, mattered because Nebuchadnezzar had taken Daniel and temple vessels from there, linking Daniel’s exile and God’s judgment to Babylon’s court.
