Babylon, in the region of Chaldea in southern Mesopotamia (modern Iraq), was the capital of Belshazzar’s kingdom and the setting of his prideful feast. Jerusalem was the city whose temple vessels Babylon had taken, underscoring Belshazzar’s contempt for Israel’s God despite Nebuchadnezzar’s warning.
