Babylon was the imperial capital on the Euphrates in Mesopotamia, where Belshazzar honored Daniel after the writing on the wall. Chaldea, the surrounding Babylonian realm, had conquered Jerusalem in Judah and taken its temple vessels, making Belshazzar’s sacrilege and coming judgment especially significant.
