Egypt was the land where Israel had been enslaved and from which the LORD delivered them through Moses; Midian, east of the Gulf of Aqaba, was where Jethro lived and where Moses had earlier sojourned. In this verse, Jethro rejoices over Israel’s rescue from Egypt, hearing of God’s saving acts while they are encamped near Midian.
