Moreover he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God.

Egypt was the land where Israel lived under oppression, while Midian was the region east of the Gulf of Aqaba where Moses had fled and was tending sheep. Mount Horeb, commonly associated with Sinai, is where God appeared to Moses and identified himself as the God of the patriarchs, commissioning deliverance from Egypt.
