Egypt, in northeastern Africa along the Nile, was the land where Israel had been enslaved before the Lord delivered them in the exodus. Though not named directly in this verse, Israel’s harvest festivals expressed covenant gratitude to the God who redeemed them from Egypt and provided for them in the promised land.
