Babylon was the Mesopotamian empire that deported Judah’s king; Lebanon and Canaan evoke the land and royal house from which he was taken, while Jerusalem was Judah’s threatened capital. Egypt, south of Canaan, was the foreign power Zedekiah trusted for rescue, but God declared its army would not save him.
